State Champs are just finishing up their headline tour run with Against The Current, With Confidence, and Don Broco. The second to last date was a homtown show for the local hero’s as they lit the sold out concert hall up.
Things started off with Don Broco, a fairly newer act from the UK. They carried themselves with a frontman who screamed of an 80s clash between Patrick Swazey and Michael Jackson. The way they bounced around stage with their pop-friendly sound had us questioning what kind of show we signed up for. But hey- at-least they have a cowbell! We vote for more cowbell!
Next up we had With Confidence, who had a run on this past years Vans Warped Tour. Their setup screamed of a vintage grunge set, as they took complete control of their stage. The fans were immediately screaming every line right back at them. We had to question who’s hometown show it was for a second, as the fans were going up the wall for them. They played through their biggest hits including: Voldemort, London Lights, and finished strong with Keeper before kicking that mic stand down for the ultimate mic drop and walking off stage in serious fashion.
Against The Current took the stage next with full light fixtures. The band hung in the back as front-woman, Chrissy Costanza dominated the stage. She had more energy in her then every guy on the lineup that night combined. The band played through their big hits including: Running With The Wild Things, Talk, and Gravity but unfortunately did miss Fireproof. Where was Fireproof?! The band did also have one other thing that they failed to mention in there set. Hiding in the back by the drum kit on bass was none other than Jordan Eckes of We Are The In Crowd. Not sure how long he has been a touring member with Against The Current, but we would love to see Against The Current covering some old WATIC tracks for sure! Hopefully we see some kind of an announcement on this in the future for both acts.
Next up, the moment of truth. The crowd grew with anticipation as they started to state “STATE CHAMPS, STATE CHAMPS.” As we said earlier, it was a sold out show and the biggest welcoming home crew we have ever seen. Fans were immediately crowd surfing over the barricade for a chance to get up close with their hometown hero’s. The band had a great energy to them as they played through all their hits in a 18 song set-list which seem to hit every single one of them before finishing strong with their Encore tracks, Critical and Secrets. The deluxe edition of their latest album, Around The World And Back is out now! It features two new songs, acoustic songs, live songs and a full-length DVD be sure to check it out and support them.
