“Everything Will Be Alright In the End”
By: Arianna Riddle
After 22 years of existence most people are trying to figure out how to be adults. The band Weezer, on the other hand, has the whole maturity thing figured out. Their new album “Everything Will Be Alright in the End” is a great depiction of how to be yourself while still keeping up with the time.
The album starts off strong with the songs that make you want to move around your room lip-syncing along with Rivers Cuomo. The song’s first single and second song off the album, “Take Me Back”, really does take the listener back. The sound of the song seems very nostalgic while also providing a new taste. Weezer fans, both new and old, can listen to it and feel a sense of belonging. The rest of the album does not disappoint either. The song “Go Away” with Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino is also a great song. Cuomo and Cosentino sound beautiful together and the song is very catchy. The song makes me happy even though it does not have very happy lyrics. The song is talking about a man trying to get a second chance after cheating on a woman. I think it would be a great song for the next single.
In my opinion, “Cleopatra” is the best song on the album. It has all the elements of a folksy song while still powering through the Alternative genre. The atmosphere of the song is very cheery even though the lyrics are talking about moving on. The whole feel of the way things use to be evokes my thoughts. It makes me think about how someone once a hold on me, but the guitar solo makes those thoughts dissipate into distant memories instead of desires for what once was.
I give this album a 4.5 out of 5. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like all the songs off of this album, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this album to people to listen to while in the car. I just want to listen to all these songs on repeat on a wanderlust road trip. A self discovery would benefit greatly with this as its soundtrack.
