California singer-songwriter, Jeff Caudill, formerly of pop-punk band Gameface, will release ‘Reset The Sun,’ a 6-song EP with an all-new band in late April. ‘Reset The Sun’ is an interesting combination of Americana, alt-country with prominent 90’s influences throughout.
The first track, ‘If I Don’t Come Home’ boasts a beautiful acoustic melody and gentle, honest lyrics. It is a compelling combination of styles – alt rock and country infused with some listless Indie progression.
Track 2 kicks it up a bit with a cheerful tempo. Contrary to the first track, track 2’s lyrics are the captivating factor. The weight of the song rides on thought-provoking lyrics and mellow riffs.
Tracks three and four display Caudill’s versatility as an artist. The tempo quickens while maintaining a soothing, lullaby-like quality that’s been present in the EP from the start. Lots of influences are present throughout the EP in both instrumentation and lyrics – most noticeably sounds from the 90’s such as the Counting Crows and Pearl Jam. Caudill even hints at some earlier influences like Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Overall, the serene lyrics and instrumental versatility are a bit more enticing than the vocals and carry the strength of the album. Caudill’s talent is showcased through his ability to combine many different styles while maintaining a signature sound. His unique melodies and acoustic riffs paired well with reserved percussion, creating a soothing, but somewhat anti-climactic album.
PopD gives this EP 3 out of 5 stars.
