Four Year Strong
by: Whitney Newell
Four Year Strong is a four-piece easycore band that’s been standing out from the pack since 2001. With some albums varying and some more successful than others, their self-titled is pure quality Four Year Strong. After Warped Tour 2014 and releasing their EP, this album is highly anticipated for the easycore revivalists out there.
Four Year Strong literally is a strong, powerful band that does not intend to help you wind down after that long day at work. They are that band that gets you through the workday. This album adds to FYS’ discography as another upbeat “get-going” hit.
I was taken aback was when I first listened to “Eating My Words”, the third track of the album. The softer vocals coming from a rough voice was attention grabbing, but in a good way, as it lead on to the classic Four Year Strong feel only a few short seconds after. This band is known for their insane riffs, and Four Year Strong keeps ‘em coming in their self-titled, such as in “Here’s to Swimming with Bow-Legged Women”. Speaking of which, you can expect not only the wild song titles, but the album art isn’t to be ignored either, which we were curious about after their last EP’s far more basic design in comparison to previous releases. To close the album, they added “Go Down in History” which is from the EP with the same title back in 2014.
This is an album you can not help but want to hear live. We actually had the privilege of seeing Four Year Strong on The Story So Far’s tour earlier this month in Charlotte, NC and the band played both “Go Down in History” and “We All Float Down Here”, the second track of the album. From the album itself to hearing it live, the band has put their all into this album and it shows. After 14 years of being a band, many fall into a laziness and publish something just to stay relevant. Four Year Strong just keeps building upon themselves, and intends on “taking over the world”, for all my Rise or Die Trying fans. 5 out of 5 stars without a doubt.
